The Melt Continues

Summary

Warm and wet weather continues through Friday with cooler weather arriving for the weekend. Some snow may be possible mixed with rain both early on Thursday and again on Friday night.

Update

Sunny skies and warm temperatures are doing their best to melt what's left of the snowpack out across New England. With the exception of the high peaks, the ski trails, and the north slope of the Appalachians in New Hampshire and Maine, most of the snow is now gone.

Snow depth analysis provided by the Office of Water Prediction.

There is of course plenty of snow on the trails at places like Jay Peak and Killington where daily operations continue. Elsewhere, there are a few resorts still open for daily operations and/or weekend operations.

The forecast calls for increasing clouds on Wednesday with temperatures continuing to run warm in the 40s and 50s in central and northern Vermont/New Hampshire. The forecast for heavy rain has backed off and it looks more like just rain showers in store for much of Thursday and Friday. Snow levels will likely start mid-slope on Thursday morning and work their way up above the summits by afternoon. Some wet snow may be possible with little-to-no accumulation expected. The opposite (falling snow levels) with a transition from rain to snow is then possible Friday into Saturday.

The weekend is looking pretty solid with partly sunny skies and temperatures topping out near 40F at the summits and upper 40s to low 50s at the bases. Snow will continue to be soft/corn and variable through Saturday. Overnight temperatures Saturday night will drop back below freezing for the first time in a while and may produce some firmer spots on Sunday morning.

Thanks for reading and look for an update on Friday morning. The season summary is coming next week.
