Snow Showers Today into Tonight
Summary
As a low-pressure system tracks eastward, northern Utah will see showers today with snow in the higher elevations. Accumulations are expected through this evening. High pressure gradually takes control as we head toward the weekend.
Update
We are waking up this morning with some fresh snow, generally 1-3" so far in the high elevations of the Wasatch. The heaviest precipitation, however, has been hanging out over the west desert and the west side of the GSL:
Eventually, as the low pulls east, this is going to drag this precip back toward the Wasatch and the flow will turns easterly, northerly and eventually northwesterly. In looking at the HRRR high-resolution guidance this morning, I am less enthused about how much precip we get in the Wasatch. We should see snow pickup this afternoon and evening, but I'm not sure we are going to see the totals that models were showing yesterday. Personally, I'm setting my expectations a bit lower with another 5-10" possible by tomorrow morning.
We could certainly see heavy snow this afternoon and perhaps higher amounts will be possible. I'm going to keep my eye on radar trends today with the option to zip up the canyon for afternoon powder if it starts coming down hard.
Starting on Tuesday, we gradually start to clear, but times of clouds and even light snow showers will be possible over the next couple of day before high pressure takes full control for the weekend with warmth and full sun returning.
